ローマのサンタチェチーリア音楽院で、19世紀のシスチナ礼拝堂の最も偉大な歌手であるRiccardo Daviesi について学ぶ。後に、有名なイタリアのバリトン、Antonio Cotogni に師事する。そこで、Beniamino Gigli と共に学び、生涯の友となる。
